Who “Faustillo” Is
Origins and career
The years in Catalonia
In his teens he emigrated to Catalonia, where he lived for 36 years. He worked in the textile industry, far from any artistic trade, but kept his bond with Andalusia intact through the Almenara association, dedicated to spreading Andalusian culture. In that context, self-taught, he began to forge the tools of his future artistic calling.
Return to Jaén: a turning point
In 1982, a trip to Solana de Torralba (Úbeda) acted as a revelation. Reconnecting with the landscape and the rhythms of the countryside catalysed his decision: “For me, nature and country life were fundamental.” The return to Jaén was not a retirement but a life and artistic choice: to settle in Peal de Becerro to immortalise its people and become the visual chronicler of rural Andalusia.
Peal de Becerro, home and canvas
In 2007 he founded his studio-workshop and House-Museum next to the medieval towers of Peal de Becerro. The space became a permanent exhibition, a meeting point and a driver of cultural life. “Faustillo” went from being the artist who returned to a true local icon driving the town’s artistic life.
Style and themes
A figurative language with symbols of the olive grove, trades, everyday scenes and dreamlike elements. A warm palette, bold drawing and compositions designed for façades that blend into the urban landscape.
